The Color Run -Shenzhen

I could call this experience a number of things.

1. The Color Stroll

2. The Selfie Walk

3. Not a 5K

4. Organized Chaos

5. No Boundaries Event

6. Inappropriate Clothing Event

7. Hello, Can you take a picture with us?

Allow me to begin with the lack of proper attire. Imagine for a moment all the items one would not wear for an athletic event, and this is what everyone wore. Now I understand the silly factor of the Color Run. Tutus, crazy colored shorts, fun socks are all welcome. I witnessed people in heels, sweaters, jeans, girly flats and smoking cigarettes. How logical.

Here are some snaps from our arrival to the venue. Still looking white and crisp.

During the run I did not have my camera but I have never seen so many people walking at an event clearly advertised as a 5k. Every moment was a photo op. I tried my damndest to run the entire thing but sometimes people wouldn't move to let me through. We were also given color packets for the finish festival. Everyone opened theirs on the trail and threw it during the race. No rules. Rules do not apply here. This was a little annoying.

I also noticed that the color throwing volunteers were giving away their bottles of color, backup powder and color barrels to the participants. Or the participants were just taking them of their own accord. After nearly seven months of living in Asia you come to expect this sort of behavior from people. Anything goes here, it's normal.

Here is the finish.

We also took total advantage of our D-list celebrity status. Everyone wanted a picture with us, simply for being white.

On the way back we got the strangest looks on the metro. People were flat out staring at us. I took a video of this little girl who kept making comments in Chinese to us and then talking to her mom.

A successful day. I took the photo below for the mere face that after my last Color Run I started pounding beers. I took the same photo but with my can next to my feet. This year I didn't run near a strip of bars so I had a bowl of delicious kelp soup with fish balls.
